THE doors of the new Woodbridge Museum opened for the first time at Maritime Woodbridge in October. Visitors were able to see the Reception area and shop. Following this the museum closed in order to start the fitting out in earnest. Work is progressing well and before long it is hoped that the Friends of the Museum will be able to visit and see the complete building. The museum will open its doors to the public in April 2019.

The Public Hall is proud to welcome back the very talented Claire Welham and her wonderful dancing & singing troupe, The Tigerlilys. They are back to Beccles for a momentous treble bill of performances for the last part of this year, one per month, starting with the popular Night at the Musicals, followed by the lovely family show, Once Upon a Fairy Tale and finishing with the sassy Diva Fever which has been wowing audiences in the area. Catch The TIgerlilys this year at the Public Hall!

Wimbledon might be over for another year but this long heatwave is keeping strawberries centre-stage for Jonny Nicholson, Chef-Proprietor of The Bell At Sax’ at the height of the soft fruit season

ON the weekend of August 11th - 12th the Woodbridge Art Club will be holding an open air exhibition to commemorate our very first exhibition which took place in August 1968 and was hung on the station railings at the Town Quay. Alas those wooden railings are long gone, replaced by a brick wall, but thanks to the Environment Agency we have obtained some metal railings which will be erected in the riverside square outside the Longshed on the Whisstocks site and it will be hung with members paintings. There will also be pottery and lace, which is a bit of a deviation because the club only catered for painters in 1968 but now has thriving potters and lace makers groups.

NEW Horizons, the club for older people in the Woodbridge area, has been able to purchase some new games due to a very generous grant from District Councillor Caroline Page. Funding from the Locality Budget has enabled us to buy a floor basketball set, a Bean Bag target game together with a Music Quiz and Musical Bingo. These have proved very popular and we are very grateful to Caroline for her continued support of the Club. This month, members also enjoyed attempting a Japanese style flower arrangement using twisted willow, catkins and ferns. They produced some attractive and cheerful displays to brighten their homes during these dull winter days.We also enjoyed a slide show on Chile entitled ‘The Long Thin Country’ by Chris Parfitt.
