Music at St Mary’s Church, Farnham
“Spring Serenade” Friday 17th May 2019 at St Mary’s Church.
6.00 pm Fizz and Canapes, Concert Commences at 7.00 pm.
Geographically so close to Snape Maltings, it’s not surprising that the Alde River Benefice villages should have such a spread of amateur and professional musicians amongst their residents. By popular request, following the Summer Concert last June, several musical residents from the Benefice will combine to give another concert at St Mary’s Church, Farnham at 7pm on Friday 17th May this year. The concert will raise funds both for the Church and to support Lighthouse Women’s Aid, Ipswich.
This year the theme will be Spring and the programme will include Vivaldi’s ‘Spring’ from the Four Seasons (soloist Roger Garland) as well as Morley’s “Now is the month of Maying” from the Aviary Choir.
Violinist Roger Garland has been a Stratford St Andrew resident for over twenty years. He had a long association with the Aldeburgh Festival during the Britten-Pears years through membership of the English Chamber Orchestra, the festival’s orchestra in residence from 1961 to 1982.
The Aviary Choir was formed in 2017 by ladies from Stratford St Andrew and Farnham and the surrounding area. The name comes from ‘The Aviary’ by Richard Rodney Bennett, which the choir sang, to great acclaim, as their debut performance at St Mary’s Church, Farnham in 2018.
The programme will also include performances by Alde River Benefice organist, Hannah Pemberton on baroque recorder and Matthew Merrett, organist at St Margaret’s Parish Church, Leiston, who also supports the Aviary Choir as accompanist.
Fizz and canapes will be provided before the concert by Stratford’s favourite food aficionado, Deborah Brame, and if last year is anything to go by, the whole event promises to be an enjoyable and uplifting occasion, involving the whole community.
Tickets: £15 to include fizz, canapés and concert are available from:
