A Stitch in Time

NEEDLE-LACE expert Jane Rowton-Lee, who had exhibited her work around the world as well as at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, is coming to St Mary’s Church, Bungay, on Friday 28th April. She will be giving a talk to launch ‘A Stitch in Time’, an exhibition of needlework and textiles, ancient and modern.

Most of Mrs Rowton-Lee’s work is needle lace but she sometimes works bobbin lace and combines the two. Inspired by the natural world around, the talk will detail how she integrates flowers into her interpretative work for exhibitions and competitions. In 2015 she was invited to take part in British Week in Japan.

A Stitch in Time is organised by Bungay Joint Tourism Group and Friends of St Mary’s Church. The Church is already home to a textile hanging depicting the history of the market town. This will be complemented by work by Mrs Rowton Lee, samplers on loan from the Bungay Museum, smocking, church vestments on loan from local churches in Bungay, contemporary work from the Bungay Textile Workshop and more.

Tickets for the talk are now on sale for £10 which includes a glass of wine and nibbles and a preview of the exhibition which runs until May 3rd. To buy tickets call 01986 893133 or 01986 892855.

A Stitch in Time is at St Mary’s Church, Bungay, NR35 1AY, on April 29th to May 3rd, open from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free; donations welcome.
