Beccles Christmas Lights

PREPARATIONS are underway for this year’s Beccles Christmas light switch on along with a whole host of festive activities.

Various organisations, groups and volunteers from across Beccles and the wider community have come together in organising this year’s illuminations which will light up the town on Friday 25th, November.

The evening will see Heart Radio Breakfast Presenter Dave Taylor, who grew up in the town, host the evening on the stage in Market Square from 5.30pm, as well turning on the Christmas Lights at 6pm with some of this years cast from the towns pantomime – Aladdin.

Dave said “I’m looking forward to switching on the lights as I went to school for five years in Beccles. I used to love going to Woolworths every Monday during dinner time buying the new albums and singles out that week; ~I used to go to Bakers Oven and pop into Morlings. Also I used to play football for Waveney Tigers, so looking forward to seeing some old friends in the crowd.”

Aside from the town being lit up, there will be entertainment from local singer Tom Elgie, the Suffolk School of Samba will bring colour and music to the town centre and there will also be performances from Beccles Community Choir, all female accapella group – Bella Tonic and Beccles Rock Choir.

Steven Alderson, Chairman of Beccles Business & Tourism Assocation said “Beccles will again be lit up this year with festive cheer. We are lucky in Beccles that the council provide the funds to have the lights installed and that the businesses and people of the town come together to help organise this event”.

The evening will also see the winner of the Beccles Best Dressed Christmas Window announced and the launch of this year’s Beccles Christmas Tree Trail which will be its fourth year, and everyone is encouraged to pick up a leaflet and take part.

There will be free parking after 4pm in all Waveney District Council Car Parks.

Most businesses will be open for late night Christmas Shopping along with festive market stalls in market square. For further information on this year’s line-up please visit
