Folk at the Leiston Film Theatre
MULTI award winning eight-piece folk band, Merry Hell, will be bringing their acclaimed talent to the Leiston Film Theatre on Friday 28th October, with an unmissable evening of brilliant Northern folk-rock entertainment.
The band consists of Andrew Kettle and Virginia Kettle (vocals), John Kettle (guitar), Neil McCartney (violin), Bob Kettle (mandolin and harmonica), Nick Davies (bass), Lee Goulding (keyboards) and Andy Jones (drums).
Founded on the tradition of music connecting with the audience, the band’s repertoire has earned an incredible reputation for their sheer artistry and heart-felt performances. In four short years they have risen to become festival favourites, with their first two albums finding favour with critics, broadcasters and music fans alike.
With many awards under their belt, the band continue to receive plaudits from across the industry and have recently been nominated for the ‘Best Band’ at the ‘Folkies Awards’. Their new album, entitled ‘Bloodlines’ – their forth, is due to be released in October just in time for their appearance at Leiston Film Theatre.
‘Folk at the Theatre’ is a joint venture between a project called ‘Folk at the Froize’ which is a monthly mingle of fantastic food and brilliant music developed by David Grimwood and Louise Smith of the Froize Restaurant in Chillesford, with Jon Hart and Lucy Sampson (aka ‘Honey and the Bear’) and Wayne Burns of Leiston Film Theatre. The idea is to bring some of the UK’s finest folk bands to the stage over the next few months. ‘Folk at the Froize’ has developed quite a following having already hosted eleven ‘Sold Out’ gigs featuring top musicians including Sam Carter, Ange Hardy, Dan Walsh, Sam Kelly, Greg Russel and Ciaran Algar, The Black Feathers, Hattie Briggs, Hannah Scott, and the Canadian sensations: The East Pointers…. plus, a whole host of up and coming local talent providing support.
Merry Hell will be supported by Suffolk’s very own ‘The Broadside Boys’, who have established themselves a big following on the national Folk scene, with performances at folk clubs and festivals across the country. With a catalogue of songs inspired by their experience of country life in the East of England, the Broadside Boys are a dynamic and entertaining celebration of our rural heritage.
This ‘not to be missed’ evening will be jointly compered by Radio Suffolk’s very own Stephen Foster, who is a huge fan of live music in East Suffolk and dear old friend – Stephen Bayfield, in some guise or another!
Folk at the Theatre: Merry Hell will be appearing at the Leiston Film Theatre on Friday 28th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £15 and are now available from the Leiston Film Theatre box office on 01728 830549 or online at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk
