Bungay Camera Club `Open Competition` Report

A large number of images submitted by members of Bungay Camera Club saw the first Competition of 2025 take place on the evening of Wednesday 28th February.

The `Open Competition` saw 21 colour prints, 19 mono prints and 22 projected images on show for the guest judge, Mr Simon Ciappara FRPS, to appraise and score.

Mr Chiappara, a member of Norwich and District Photographic Society and visiting Bungay Club for the first time, received a warm welcome as he introduced himself prior to carrying out his duties.

Beginning with the colour prints, which were described as `an eclectic mix of a high standard and showing some exquisite details`, Mr Chiappara Selected two winning images, `Besided the Dead Sea` by Jane Murphy RPS  and `Jelly Eared Fungi` by Andy Wilson ARPS, both of which scored 20 points.

The mono prints followed, which again showed a great variety of subjects for the judge to critique. The winning image `Caught in Time` by Sue Grief RPS, was described as, `a beautiful simple photograph of a pebble in the sand with pin sharp bubbles and catch lights. Making this a stunning image`.

Mr Chippara commented that, `the PDI`s have some truly impactful images. One stood out and that was the image titled `Thirsty Hornet` by Mark Gray. A wonderfully made photograph and deserving of a maximum score and top place.`

Club Chairman, Mrs Sue Grief RPS, thanked Mr Chiappra for `giving of his time to travel to the club and provide such an interesting and informative commentary and critique of all images. The hints and tips about how some of the images might be improved with a second viewing, left everyone going home with greater knowledge`.

The club members awarded marks of 20 and 19 points were,

Colour Prints, joint 20 points, Beside the Dead Sea by Jane Murphy RPS and `Jelly Eared Fungi` by Andy Wilson RPS. Joint 19 points, Returning Waves Washing Over Stones by Peter Nixon and Did He Save It ? by Jerry Keeble.
