Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum

‘You’ve so much to see …’, ‘We never knew you had so much …’, ‘I’ll be back …’

These are just a few of the regular comments made by our visitors; we’re at NR35 1NZ and you’ll find that we really do have a lot for families to see and do.  For the casual visitor, we cover just about every aspect of aviation from its earliest days right up until the 1990s. For the enthusiast, we have detailed information at our exhibits and our experienced and knowledgeable staff are on hand to answer questions.

So, what do we have?  As you drive into the Museum – free on-site parking, btw – you’ll see our external display of aircraft: fighters, bombers, trainers and VIP transport.  Through the gates lie our special interest buildings:  446th Bombardment Group USAAF, stationed a few hundred yards away near Flixton village in World War 2; RAF Bomber Command, the Royal Observer Corps and RAF Air Sea Rescue.

From there enter the Main Hangar for the start of our internal displays; new this year are:  Luftwaffe Weg, Cockpit Corner and Cold War Corridor. Move on through to the Link Trainer room to see how it used to be done before VR simulators and the like.  Next door you’ll find the Boulton Paul Hangar, named for the Norwich-based engineering and aircraft manufacturing firm, and the Ken Wallis Hall, dedicated to our first President; a notable aviator in his day … and James Bond stand-in!

Once outside again, be sure to pop into Archive 2 for another ‘New-for-2023’ display, comprising instruments which show the development of DR (‘dead reckoning’) navigation – how aircraft got from A to B before satnav – and why it’s called ‘dead’.

But we’re not a ‘look-but-don’t-touch’ museum; at NASAM you are encouraged to be a part of things!  Sit in the pilot’s seat of an aircraft or in one of our cockpits; fly a plane on our simulator; plan a flight in our DR display … or experience an air raid in our Anderson Shelter.

Our younger visitors don’t miss out either as there are puzzles and games near the NAAFI, where grown-ups can enjoy tea, coffee or a soft drink … oh, yes, there are buns, too! After all that, you might like to visit our Shop which sells a wide range of souvenirs and knick-knacks.

At NASAM we’re much, much more than just a museum; we look forward to welcoming you and yours soon.  ‘Chocks Away’ for a great day out!
