Egdar Sewter Reception Class Learn About ‘Long Ago’ With Visit to Halesworth Museum

Reception children were very lucky to start their new term, and new topic of ‘Long Ago’ with a visit to Halesworth Museum.

We were welcomed in by a great team of volunteers who taught us lots of new information.

We were allowed to make our own fossils of ammonites using dough and ammonite moulds.

We were shown how to do brass rubbings of people wearing clothes from historical eras, such as Kings and Queens, and important historic buildings.

As well as all of this, we were allowed to write using slates similar to those that would have been used by children in school long ago, because paper was such an expensive item at the time. We were also shown some amazing wooden toys, and how to use them. These toys were from times before plastic and batteries, so were quite different to the toys that most of us have at home now.

It really was a great treat to visit the museum and just the right exciting start to our new learning.’
