Merry Christmas from BACT

BACT community transport is wishing everyone a good Christmas and New Year and is still seeking new volunteer drivers to join their fabulous team.

Have you considered how to spend your spare time in the New Year? Are you thinking about your New Year resolutions? Would you like to contribute to your local community in a worthwhile and valuable way? The team at bact are looking for your help.

BACT community transport provides a much-needed lifeline to so many people in the local community. Many of these people are elderly and vulnerable with no alternative transport options. Community transport services play a crucial part in preventing social isolation and loneliness.  Many of bact’s passengers confirm they would not leave their home’s if it were not for the service.

BACT are receiving a growing number of journey requests, for hospital and medical appointments, for visiting relatives, attending day centres, shopping trips as well as to many other types of appointments and destinations. Sadly, some of these requests are having to be turned down due to lack of drivers.  Inevitably, this number will grow unless new volunteers are found.

BACT community transport covers the area of Lowestoft, Beccles, Bungay, Loddon, and the surrounding areas. New volunteer drivers are required in all these areas, and bact would love to hear from anyone who feels they may enjoy the role. Volunteer drivers are a pivotal, precious resource and very much part of the bact team.  Volunteers can choose to use their own vehicles or those belonging to bact; these include minibuses, smaller wheelchair accessible vehicles and a hybrid car.

Volunteering is proven to have a positive impact on our mental health and support network. Being involved in our local community is both rewarding and beneficial. It offers opportunities to learn new skills and experience as well as enabling people to keep active and socially involved.

Drivers receive recognised training with ongoing support, DBS certification as well as a mileage allowance (when using their own vehicle).

The entire team at bact wishes everyone a lovely Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

If you can help or know someone who can, please call the bact office for an informal chat on 01986 896896 or email info@bactcommunitytransport.org.uk
