Woodbridge Repair Cafe
Have you even wondered what to do with your broken kettle, trousers that needs shortening or toys that need fixing? Once a month, St John’s Church Woodbridge and Transition Woodbridge jointly host a repair cafe. The aim of the repair cafe is to reduce the number of items sent to landfill sites that could be fixed and, in the process, reduce the amount of CO2 produced. So far this year, CO2 savings from items that have been repaired and not replaced is 2598 kg.
The dedicated team of volunteer repairers love a challenge. Recent repairs have included a rocking horse needing a new saddle and reins, a ship’s compass, a spiralizer and a teddy needing a new nose. Repairs can include small electrical items, sewing, vacuum cleaners, radios, electronic items, costume jewellery and toys. Christmas lights usually appear at the December cafe! Anything portable is welcome to be brought along and the team will attempt to repair it. No specialist repairs are undertaken, but a list of local specialists is available.
The repair cafe also serves hot drinks and freshly baked scones. Anyone is welcome to come and relax in the cafe, whether bringing an item to be repaired or not.
The repair cafe is held on the first Monday of every month in St John’s Church Woodbridge, 10-12. Repairs are free of charge, but voluntary contributions are welcome to cover the cost of consumable parts. Do pop along and see what’s happening on your doorstep.
