What’s it like to be a town councillor?
In May all sixteen Beccles Town Council seats will be up for election. The Town Council is providing a special event for residents to find out about what the role involves, how the Council operates and the timescale and process for the elections. Information on the training opportunities for councillors will also be available.
The event will be at the Town Hall on Wednesday 1st March, 6 – 7 pm. After the Mayor and Town Clerk have spoken, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and meet some of the current councillors.
Cllr Barry Darch, Mayor of Beccles, said, ‘I think it’s important that councillors are representative of the community and that councillors as a team have a range of experiences and backgrounds, including employment status, age and gender. Being a councillor is a wonderful opportunity to give something back to our town as well as to learn and share experiences and perspectives. In addition to the usual kinds of responsibilities that town councils have, Beccles Town Council is responsible for the Fenland Charity Trust, so the role has an extra dimension that is both interesting and worthwhile.’
