Aldeburgh Carnival is Back!

The 78th Aldeburgh Carnival is back and in the year of our Queens Platinum Jubilee!

Dates: August 13-15th with the main Carnival Day on Monday August 15th.

Aldeburgh Carnival has been going for many years and continues to this day to be one of the finest and well organised events in the calendar year for our region. In the year of our Queens Platinum

So, for the 78th Aldeburgh Carnival, what do we have in store for you to enjoy over these 3 days:

Carnival Queen

Emily Fryer

I’m Emily Fryer, I’m 21 years old.

I’ve lived in Aldeburgh all my life. I love animals, and I’m due to start my new job soon at Wherry vets. I’ve always wanted to be Carnival Queen, so I’m over the moon to have been asked.

Ivy Hill

Hi my name is Ivy, I’m 10 and go to Aldeburgh Primary School.

I love going on holiday with my family, going to festivals and seeing shows at the theatre.

My favourite things to do are swimming, playing the piano and baking- one day I hope to go on Junior Bake Off.

I’m so happy Emily is carnival queen. I’m really excited and looking forward to be being one of her attendants especially as my friend Lilly is too

 

Lilly Atkins

Hi my name is Lilly Atkins and I Am 10 years old.

I love horses, swimming and really enjoy baking cakes! I enjoy spending time with my friends and looking after my animals, Whinnie the rabbit and my hamster Keith! xxx

 

Sophia Hambling

Hi my name is Sophia Hambling and I go to Aldeburgh Primary School, I like to dance and I go to ballet. I also enjoys Brownies and playing football with my brothers.

 

Elizabeth Godbold

Hi my name is Elizabeth and I attend Kelsale Primary School. I enjoy swimming, I loves horses and I go to a pony club, and I am really excited to be an attendant.

 

To make this special event happen on the 13th, 15th and 15 August, over 200 volunteers work together so that 100’s more can take part. After a two year interval, this is the ideal opportunity for the whole community to come together to enjoy a great weekend of fun, celebrating a return to normality whilst raising money which is ploughed back into local projects and organisations.

 

We are focussed on everyone having fun while we raise money for local charities. We have so much going on to mention but here are some of what is in store for you to enjoy.  Music, sport, food & fun, with shops and business decorated to celebrate the return of the Carnival. In addition, we have many events over the weekend and finishing with our spectacular firework display which takes place on the beach following the traditional lantern parade which starts at 6pm from Aldeburgh High Street.

Saturday August 13th – Music Day

  • Live bands in pubs, bars, restaurants & Hotels along the high street
  • Fun Fair
  • Punch & Judy
  • Traditional Carousel
  • Numerous eating & drinking outlets
  • Multiple stalls and attractions for all ages

Sunday August 14th – Sports Day

  • 10K mini marathon
  • Childrens sport events
  • Kite flying demonstration
  • Duck racing

Monday August 15th – The Main Event

  • Lifeboat launch & demonstrations
  • 30pm Crowning of the Carnival Queen
  • Procession of the numerous floats through the town and judging of the entries
  • 7pm Lantern gathering and procession
  • 8pm Firework display on the beach
