Halesworth Town Council

In this year, 2020, we have witnessed many changes and challenges to our daily life and for most of us it will be a year we would prefer to put behind us. However, we can all be proud of our town for the combined response to the crisis, the patience and support from all our volunteers, care workers, NHS & health workers, businesses, shop staff and residents who have shown such resilience in these troubling times. This effort has not got unnoticed.

Halesworth is proud to have been selected as one of finalist in the Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards 2020 – Towns and Villages section hosted by the Archant group (East Anglian Daily Times, Eastern Daily Press & others). Councillor Annette Dunning and Nick Rees, Town Clerk travelled to Norwich to receive the award on behalf of the town at the Cloisters, Norwich Cathedral on Friday 11th December.

The Tamsyn Imison Award launched to celebrate the Halesworth Community Tamsyn loved, is back next year.  If you know of a local individual or group that has really made the difference this year, please nominate them for this award.  Forms are available on request from the Town Council Offices and on our website.  The closing date is the 28th February 2021.

Whilst we are building communities sadly there always one or two individuals who want to destroy things. Recently, there has been some more vandalism in the Park, a bench was destroyed and all the boards on the swing walk in the Play area were broken. A festive light motif has also been damaged. If you know anything about these incidents please report this to the Police under the crime number 37//69395/20.

We have received many enquiries about the land clearing work being undertaken along Saxon Way adjacent to Pound Close. At the time of writing there has not been any approach made to the Town Council and we are not aware of any planning applications being submitted. It would be helpful if the landowners contacted the Town Council to explain their intentions as this clearance has caused a great deal of distress for many residents.

The deadline for the Halesworth Neighbourhood Plan consultation is the 16th December, please send in your leaflets or access the survey via the Town Council webpage, if you haven’t done so already, your opinion counts. Thank you

The office will be closed from the 24th December, 2020 reopening on Monday 4th January 2021.

The Council would like to send its very best wishes to all our residents and their families and we hope, despite the current restrictions, that everyone will be able to enjoy the Christmas break.
