Mark Punchard – charity cycle ride update
As you may have read in an earlier edition of the Community News, Mark Punchard decided to take on the challenge and cycle 300 miles in aid of Cancer Research. It worked out perfect timing as having been sent home from work to shield due to covid-19 this provided not only a means of raising funds for this valuable cause – but also a way to stay fit.
Having selected a suitable local route, Mark rode every day from 1st September through to 18th September, sometimes doing around 10 miles a day and other times it would be nearer 35 miles. As it happened, Mark completed his 300 miles a few days before he finished due to an error on his tracking device!
Mark explains that whilst getting out on his bike he was able to appreciate the countryside which was so familiar to him (as a Halesworth man born and bred) in a different way. The changing of the seasons, the different smells, sights and colours – all seemed more vivid. In the month in which Mark celebrated turning 60, it seems fitting that he was able to get out and do ‘his bit’ to raise much needed funds for a cause close to his heart.
So, what was the end result? Having set out hoping to raise £150 Mark actually ended up raising £2213! What a fantastic effort, well done to Mark and all who have supported him!
