Introduction to Scriptwriting (21yrs +)

Description

Over ten weekly two hour sessions (finishing on 26th June 2018), participants will learn about the craft of scriptwriting through masterclasses and workshopping each other’s writing. Participants will learn how to generate stories, create characters, write dialogue and structure scripts. At the end of the course, participants will have an extensive knowledge of dramaturgy and have built up a portfolio of work.

No writing experience necessary

The course will be led by East Anglian scriptwriter James McDermott. James trained at UEA where he graduated with an MA (Distinction) in Scriptwriting. James has participated on The Royal Court Writers Program 2017 and Soho Theatre’s Writers Lab 2016. His short plays include ‘Fast Food’ starring Jude Law (Lyric Hammersmith), ‘Ordinary Boys’ (Royal Court) and ‘Man Hug’ (Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds). Following a critically acclaimed run at Pleasance Islington, James is currently touring the country with his solo play ‘Rubber Ring’ which won Pulse Festival’s Suitcase Prize 2017. James has taught scriptwriting at Norwich Theatre Royal, New Wolsey Ipswich and Greshams School.
