Everyman Folk Club - Stratford St Andrew

OUR guests at The Everyman Folk Club on Friday 30th September are Hilary Spencer & Grant Baynham: Quicksilver. Hilary Spencer (That Voice in acapella meistersigners Artisan) and Grant Baynham (ex-'That's Life' and comic songsmith to the starts) have been working together since 2002. The distinctive voices and acclaimed instrumental talents of Jamie Roberts (BBC R2 Folk Award nominee), Rosie Hood (BBC Performing Arts winner), and Matt Quinn (Folk Degree alumnus) combine effortlessly to present England's traditional songs with a bold and fresh approach. Together they explore familiar narratives and modern themes with infectious energy and a passion for musical heritage.

Fancy a Final Fling at the Long Shop Museum?

THE Long Shop Museum will once again mark the end of the season with a spectacular celebration of steam on Sunday 23rd October. Final Fling is our annual steam and activity day with full size and miniature engines being demonstrated in all their working glory. It runs from 11am to 4pm and highlights how the museum’s site in Leiston’s former Garrett Engineering Works, was a hub of industrial production with the design and manufacture of a prolific and diverse array of magnificent machines.

The lovely Consuelo Allen’, the Museum’s own 1923 Garrett steamroller, will be on display and of course the much loved shunting engine Sirapite will be in full steam and available for rides. Acquired by Garretts in 1926, she became a symbol of the works and a source of local pride and was renovated in recent years to become a key exhibit. Our portable engine is in the process of being lovingly restored by our Men’s Shed team so visitors can chart her progress following re-assembly earlier this year. Other engines large and small will be on display including a guest from Bressingham Steam Museum.

Why walk when you can take a tractor ride from nearby car parks and get a sense of the sights, sounds, smells and sensations on offer through a mobile slice of agricultural history?

Home-made refreshments including lovely hot soup will be available and the girl guides will be on hand helping serve in our pop up vintage tea-room. Activities for children, a prize draw, and further attractions are to be announced. There will be a range of visiting exhibits and visitors can look around the Museum’s original Garrett Works buildings and exhibits. Don’t miss the Final Fling of 2016, a static and moving pageant of engineering history – and a steamy affair!

Ticket prices are to be confirmed but please bear in mind that regular promotions and annual passes will not be valid for entrance on event days. For details of this and other events at the Long Shop, go to www.longshopmuseum.co.uk
