The Suffolk & Royal Anglian Regiment
Leiston and District Branch OCA
EIGHT members of the OCA were present in our new surroundings of the Leiston Day Centre, on Friday 1st September and all were welcomed by our Chairman, Alf Watson. There had been no apologies. Alf expressed our gratitude to David Bailey for arranging with the Council to hire the Day Centre for the morning of the first Friday in each month. Future meetings would be held here on Fridays 6th October, 3rd November and 1st December.
There had been no interest in using a bus to the Minden Day celebrations at Bury St Edmunds, but David Bailey and his wife had represented us there, and gave us his report of the day, which had been an enjoyable occasion. No-one had been to the Beccles OCA social evening, but five members of the committee had been to Ray Saxby’s 90th birthday party with an engraved crystal glass paper weight with the regimental badge on it. A happy occasion, and a big surprise for Ray.
Trevor Peskett reported that there will be the usual Remembrance Day celebrations on the Recreation Ground, but there would be no maroons this year, due to EU regulations about insurance. The two minutes silence would be instigated by a whistle signal instead.
The Royal Anglian Day at Duxford Imperial War Museum was held on Sunday 3rd September – unfortunately, too late to make any arrangements to go.
The LTA Centre has been booked for our Christmas Social Evening on Friday 22nd December. Further information and tickets will be available from Ron Freeman, nearer the time.
Until our next meeting on October 6th, keep well, keep warm, God Bless.
