The Kitchen @ Thorpeness is a small bistro in the seaside village of Thorpeness, Suffolk. With a great view overlooking the famous mere, house in the clouds, and windmill, the location is ideal for a breakfast or lunchtime bite, while spending time at this adorable coastal spot.

Thorpeness is a popular location for tourists and locals alike; its gorgeous stony beaches and fabulous walks attract holiday goers throughout the country. There is a pub, a country club, and a golf club.  The Kitchen, on the other hand, fills a niche role as cafe, bistro, tea room, and laid back little place to watch the world go by--or at least the birds on the mere!

The first thing you notice about the Kitchen is it large and recently refurbished outside patio. It's lined with picnic tables, and is very spacious and well-manicured, but best of all, it offers a sensational view. It's the perfect place to enjoy some of the delicious food, and perhaps a glass or two of wine. In the cooler months, guests are encouraged to make use of warm, snuggly blankets, and there are outdoor heaters to boot. The Kitchen is also dog friendly: there are dog towels and free doggie treats for guests' canine chums. It adds up to a great place to start or finish a walk.

Inside, the Kitchen is sparsely attired in simple and chic functionality. To the left, a bar shows off the cakes, scones, teas, coffees, ice creams, and beverages on offer. There is plenty of seating, and even a plush settee or two. Fresh flowers dot the tabletops and the clipboard menus are stylish and contemporary. A blackened section of wall serves as an ideal specials board.

The food at the Kitchen is mouth watering and simple. For breakfasts you have bacon butties, porridge, eggs on toast, waffles, or even a door stop bread wedge with sausage, bacon, egg, and tomato. Lunch includes: fish finger baps; burgers; ham, egg and chips; king prawn, sweet chili, and corriander linguine; even a fish board of smoked salmon and king prawns. There are sandwiches, salads, and other bits and bobs, such as Welsh Rarebit, and home made soup of the day. There is also a selection of cakes and scones, most of which are made fresh on the premises. A good selection of gluten free cakes provide healthy options for those interested.

The Kitchen stocks coffee by illy, and the teas are from Teapig. There are Posh Pops, and soft drink floats, as well as the essential adult range of beverages. A simple selection of wines and beers suffices elegantly, and there is Peroni on draught.

The Kitchen @ Thorpeness is pleased to put things on, from time to time, such as theme evenings or feast nights. All Mother's get cupcakes on Mothering Sunday, and St. Patrick's day features some home made Irish specialities!

If you want a take out tea, coffee, or sandwich to eat on the beach, or you fancy a bistro style lunch, or even want to relax with a bottle of wine and the glorious view, the Kitchen is for you. Pop by for a bite and and a drink the next time you are in Thorpeness; you'll be delighted. Bring the dog and he will too!
